22nd Annual Western Canada Masters
July 3,4,5, 2009

The Cowichan River Rats of Duncan, B.C. hosted this years annual Masters Championship and put on a great show. The Island was well represented with teams from Victoria, Nanaimo and Duncan with Nanaimo placing teams in all three divisions.

The Gold medal game in Grand Masters had the North Shore Indians defeating the Nanaimo Timbermen by a score of 4-2.

In Masters Division 1 the Ladner Pioneers were seeking to regain the championship title after losing it to New West last year. Facing a tough Nanaimo team the Pioneers managed to edge out the Timbermen in a 6-5 game

In Division 2 action the Surrey Firemen returned again to the championship game but this time defeated the host Cowichan River Rats after losing last year to the North Shore Cowboys.

AGM Summary

This years AGM provided some key changes that will hopefully drive the Masters League into bigger and better things.

Key outputs from the meeting were:

Masters age level has been lowered to 30 years old with Masters now running 30+ and Grand Masters as 45+.

Any carded Senior 'C' player that plays one or more games up in Senior 'A' or 'B' in that calendar year will now have to play Masters Division 1 ball. Carded Senior 'A' and 'B' players are still not allowed in Masters Lacrosse.

Okanagan Masters has confirmed that they weill still host the 2010 Masters Championship and it will be held in Vernon. The North Shore Cowboys and South Fraser Stickmen will host the 2011 Championships in the lower mainland.
